Office of Religious Education
What does the Office do?
Through God With Us Publications, catechetical ministry,
ongoing catechist formation workshops, adult enrichment
sessions and regional adult and youth programs, the Office
nourishes total Eastern Christian formation and development.
Total, in that it envisions the Christian life and witness as
one, stemming from the message, work, and direction of Christ.
Likewise total, because it enriches believers of all ages.
Formation means more than simply imparting knowledge.
Formation affects life and nurtures mature believers who
themselves build up the body of Christ.
Development involves the psychological growth of both the
individual and the whole faith community.
Ultimately the Office of Religious Education acts under the
inspiration of the Holy Spirit and cooperates with the
eparchial bishop in the exalted task of “building up the Body
of Christ” (Eph 4:12).
Why an Office of Religious Education?
The eparchial bishop continues the apostolic work of
proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pastors share that
responsibility of the bishop within a particular parish.
Cantors lead the faithful as they participate in the
liturgical life of the parish. Parents seek to foster the
growth of their children in all dimensions, including their
growth as members of the body of Christ.
The Office of Religious Education assists the bishop, the
pastors, the cantors and the parents in carrying out this
ministry throughout the whole eparchy.
The Office helps our church to grow in faith and in the
Christian life as a model of church unity, preserving and
fostering our own integrity while maintaining communion with
the Church of Rome.
