Pre-Cana
Why Pre-Cana?
Upholding the sanctity of Christian Marriage is an important
concern for the whole Church. So many couples enter this
most solemn union with little or no reflection,
communication or understanding about the seriousness they
are undertaking.
To assist couples as they prepare to begin their new life in
Christ together the Eparchy offers the Pre-Cana program. The
program provides an informational resource and fosters
dialogue among couples preparing for Marriage.
Who can participate?
All couples planning to marry in a parish of the Eparchy of
Parma are encouraged to attend. Though the Eparchy of Parma
sponsors and coordinates the program, we welcome any Eastern
Christians preparing for Marriage to share the experience
with us.
What does Pre-Cana do?
The Pre-Cana Program offers couples preparing for Marriage
the opportunity to explore relevant and practical concerns.
The program occurs annually on two consecutive Sundays
during the Great Fast (Lent).
Day One treats the Biblical foundations of Marriage as a
sacred reality and begins to develop a spirituality of
marriage. Other presentations tackle concerns such as
insurance, financial planning and shared household
responsibilities, and an introduction to Natural Family
Planning.
The second Sunday begins with some practical pointers on
marriage and wedding planning. Participants explore the
psychology of men and women in relationship to Marriage and
investigate the ever-daunting area of “communication in
marriage.”
The program likewise briefly treats various Byzantine
traditions, and particularly looks at the Mystery of
Crowning (the Byzantine wedding ceremony).
How do we get involved?
More than anyone else your pastor relates to you as a
couple, and he understands your unique circumstances.
Therefore, to register for the Pre-Cana Program, contact
your pastor. He’s there to help you. Registration forms
typically are available by January each year.
If you have any particular questions concerning the Pre-Cana
program itself, please contact
Virgildee and Louise
Daniel, program coordinators.
