Shrine
The eparchial
Shrine of Our Lady of Mariapoch in Burton, Ohio, began
in 1955 through the acquisition of the land by anonymous
donors who wanted a shrine erected to honor the miraculous
icon of the Mother of God they had venerated in their native
Hungary. There, in the village of Pocs, an icon of the
Mother of God wept on three different occasions when the
people were in peril. The town eventually became known as
Mariapocs and the little village church grew to become a
minor basilica.
The Eparchy of Parma invites you to visit the shrine, open
from the first Sunday of May through the first Sunday in
October (the annual pilgrimage weekend) each year.
Divine
Liturgy is celebrated each Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the
shrine’s main altar. The shrine’s peaceful rural setting
lends itself to prayer and contemplation and provides a
welcome respite from the busyness of daily life.
