2007-2008 Stewardship Appeal

September 2007

Beloved Faithful of the Eparchy of Parma,

“Behold, I make all things new.” (Rev. 21:5)

These words from the book of Revelations were heard in a vision by the Holy Apostle John. They follow his seeing “a new heavens and a new earth” (21:1). Surely this describes God becoming human in the person of Jesus Christ. With His coming among us, the world was made new. He formed a new people, the Church.

Jesus told us that we had to continue to be new. He gave us the image of new wine breaking out of wineskins that have become old or a new patch pulling away from cloth that has become old (cf. Mt 9:16-17).

In many ways, the world seems to be very new but in fact its selfishness and sin reveal how it has just re-packaged the old. New life is available but is not always sought.

You and your Church have been called to proclaim the opportunity to be new. To keep us new, we have been given gifts, especially the Holy Mysteries with the clergy and laity in their respective responsibilities.

Through proper stewardship, we direct our time, talent and treasure to that for which God holds us responsible. We are continuously re-newed with the power of the Holy Spirit.

To allow for more of the collection to be directed to the parishes, the goal for this year’s Stewardship Appeal has been reduced although the needs have increased. Your financial contribution allows those with time and talent to do what they would not otherwise be able to do. Your use of your God-given talent and time are similarly needed.

The Lord bless you for your generosity. With assurance of prayer and blessing, I remain,

Sincerely yours in Christ,

(Most Rev.) John M. Kudrick
