Eparchy of Parma Stewardship Appeal 2009
Dear Faithful for the Eparchy of Parma,
Our 40th Anniversary weekend celebration is concluded. The full effect is yet to be seen. We shall continue, in the spirit of those first 40 years, to bring the world as we find it to Christ – and Christ, our Hope, to the world.
The memory of our celebration provides us with a number of areas to which we direct our attention.
The extent of the eparchy and people’s wide range of ages therein require us to investigate new ways, and strengthen proven ways, to proclaim and live the Gospel. Of particular note, the Byzantine Catholic Cultural Center with our Office of Religious Education will research the use of mass media for programming. Similarly, we must consider ways to strengthen our worship by production of appropriate printed materials and training in singing.
The many activities of our parishes deserve the support of our church at large.
We need to add emphasis to the initial and on-going formation of the laity, through faith formation days, retreats, etc.
Inter-church friendships need to be strengthened. We will advantage ourselves to the resources within these other communions and gladly share ours.
The seminary and life-long formation of clergy will be continually sustained.
Our initial investigation of monastic life in the eparchy is ready to take another step. Interested individuals have come forward and initial formation is imminent.
We are committed to the support of our clergy and monastics who are no longer able to serve actively.
The question is how we will continue the momentum in each of our parishes and in the eparchy at large. This will certainly depend greatly on our leaders but not entirely there. Each of us must do his part.
Many of us contributed to the fund for the 40th anniversary. That was certainly greatly appreciated. That fund helped to get our momentum started; this Stewardship Appeal will go toward its realization.
Please be generous to this annual appeal. Much can be done. Many are ready and willing to cooperate with your generosity. Your church depends on you. The world depends on us.
Blessings,
+Bishop John, September 2009
