The mystery! The crisis!
According to God's plan, marriage forms the foundation of society. It is the source of family life, which is the building block of the Church and of society. Yet in all its sacredness marriage suffers attack from many sides. Cultural attitudes toward marriage threaten the dignity of man and woman and thus family life at its very core. When family life is threatened, so is society and the life of the Church by creating an obstacle to the very unfolding of salvation. God's great Mystery of Married Love and Life faces a crucifixion of great proportions.
Catholics now must stand and be counted as the defenders of that human dignity promoted and perpetuated by marriage. The Eparchy of Parma marriage initiative offers a timely response to the present crisis that finds its expression in such phenomena as ‘same sex marriage', the prevalent contraceptive attitude, and the Hollywood approach to marriage with its pre-nuptial agreements and glittering superficiality.
Despite these many difficulties, we know that Christ is our Hope, and He has a plan for our lives.
